Tire Cleaners

What is the difference between tire cleaners and tire dressings?

Tire cleaners remove dirt, brake dust, road grime, and browning from tires, while tire dressings add shine and protection after cleaning. Think of cleaners as the prep step and dressings as the finish step. For best results, always clean tires thoroughly before applying any dressing product to ensure proper adhesion and longer-lasting results.

Can I use acid-based tire cleaners on all wheel types?

No. Acid-based tire cleaners are powerful but should not be used on polished aluminum, anodized, chrome-plated, or damaged wheel finishes. For sensitive wheels, use a pH-balanced or non-acid tire cleaner. If you are unsure about your wheel type, our Tampa team can recommend the safest cleaner for your specific application. Always test in an inconspicuous area first.

What causes brown tires and how do tire cleaners fix it?

Tire browning is caused by antiozonants, which are chemicals added to rubber to prevent dry rot and cracking. Over time, these compounds migrate to the tire surface and oxidize, creating a brown appearance. Professional tire cleaners contain surfactants and solvents that break down this oxidation layer, restoring the tire to its original black color. Regular cleaning prevents heavy buildup.

How often should I clean my tires professionally?

For optimal tire appearance and protection, clean tires every 1 to 2 weeks with a quality tire cleaner, followed by a tire dressing. Professional detailers typically clean tires with every wash. Vehicles driven in harsh conditions, near the coast, or exposed to heavy brake dust may need more frequent cleaning. Consistent maintenance prevents stubborn buildup that becomes harder to remove over time.

Do you offer tire cleaners for RVs, boats, and commercial vehicles?

Yes. Sundial stocks tire cleaners suitable for all vehicle types including cars, trucks, RVs, trailers, boats on trailers, and commercial fleet vehicles. We carry concentrated formulas that are economical for large-scale applications, as well as ready-to-use options for convenience. Our team can recommend products based on your specific tire type and cleaning volume requirements.

What tools do I need to use tire cleaners effectively?

For best results, use a dedicated tire brush with stiff bristles to agitate the cleaner into the tire surface. A spray bottle helps with even application, and a pressure washer or strong hose rinses away loosened contaminants. For detailing professionals, we recommend having separate brushes for tires and wheels to prevent cross-contamination.
